Bell to Moreland – Level Crossing Removal Project

The works include the removal the level crossings at Bell Street, Munro Street and Reynard Street in Coburg, and Moreland Road in Brunswick by raising the rail line over the road. These four dangerous and congested level crossings will be gone for good by late 2020.

New stations will be built at Coburg and Moreland as part of the project, while the existing heritage-listed station buildings are restored and repurposed.

The project will deliver new community open spaces, improved east–west connections and improvements to the Upfield Bike Path.

Around 68,000 vehicles go through these level crossings each day, with the boom gates down for up to 25 per cent of the morning peak.

CDR provided geotechnical testing throughout both day and night works across the corridor to a number of contractors, including the principal contractor John Holland. These works required a number of contractors to work closely together within a high-profile location and to tight deadlines.
